Portland District Health (PDH) today welcomed the appointment of four accomplished new members to its board.

New board members to guide PDH

The four new directors are Suzanne Anderton, Alexandra (Ali) Georgalas, Rebecca Smith, and Paul Wright, ensuring a fair representation of both women and men on the 11-member board.

PDH Board Chair Peter Matthews said Board Directors are an integral part of Victoria’s health system, and are selected based on the skills, experience, and competencies developed from personal and professional activities.

“I am delighted to welcome four capable and highly qualified new Board Directors who bring with them exceptional experience, knowledge and leadership,” Mr Matthews said.

“The new members have a range of board skills and competencies – including clinical and corporate governance, financial management, corporate services, and health policy – with a combination or local, regional, and Victorian representation.

“Together, they will strengthen our board and our work to support the delivery of safe, high quality, person-centred care in Portland and district for the long term. I look forward to working with Suzanne, Ali, Rebecca, and Paul to implement the recommendations from the Hillis report and create our new Strategic Plan.

“On behalf of PDH, I thank Alex Campbell and Dr Sue Wilson for their commitment, expertise and service to the Portland community, as they step down from the Board. We wish them all the best for their future endeavours,” Mr Matthews said.

The new members come from diverse backgrounds and bring with them a range of high-quality skills to help shape the health service needs of the Portland community.

Paul Wright is an accountant at Stone Accounting & Business Advisory and has more than seventeen years’ experience in dealing with a vast array of industries. Raised in Portland, Paul still lives locally and has a passion for strong corporate governance.

Suzanne Anderton has more than twenty years’ experience as a registered nurse and nurse practitioner. She has held a number of operational management roles at South West Healthcare Warrnambool and has lived in south west Victoria for her entire life.

Ali Georgalas has more than ten years’ experience in the public health and not-for-profit aged care sectors. She is currently the general manager of corporate services for a not-for-profit residential aged care home in Werribee.

Rebecca Smith is a registered nurse with postgraduate qualifications and extensive experience in managing health and aged care teams in regional and metropolitan areas within Victoria and Western Australia.
