Urgent Care Centre

Portland District Health operates an Urgent Care Centre (UCC) that serves the Greater Glenelg Region with round-the-clock availability. Though commonly perceived as an Emergency Department, it holds the official classification of an Urgent Care Centre. The facility treats approximately 11,000 patients annually, with nursing and medical staff managing critically ill patients, cardiac emergencies, trauma cases, and minor injuries.

97% of patients who present to Portland District Health UCC are treated locally. Complex cases requiring specialist intervention are transferred efficiently to Melbourne hospitals and retrieval services, supported by an onsite helipad. Telehealth capabilities enable remote consultations with specialists at Southwest Health, Royal Children's Hospital, Royal Melbourne, The Alfred, and Adult Retrieval Victoria.
