Golf day and online auction this week

Golfers and auction bidders can help to make life more comfortable for Portland District Health (PDH) patients by supporting upcoming events.

The 2023 PDH golf day will be on Friday March 31, supported by an online auction which runs from March 29 till April 2.

PDH CEO Samantha Sharp said the health service plays an important role in creating a healthier community and providing health services for the Glenelg region. These events, the golf day and auction are very important fundraisers for us to provide support for the community.

PDH community engagement manager Carolyn Malseed said players, sponsors and bidders could all show their support for the community by getting involved. The funds will be used for more specialist beds.

“We understand that times are tough but any support we get will be greatly appreciated by PDH and by the local people who use our services,” Ms Malseed said.

“The specialist beds we’re fundraising for will include many features that will be more comfortable for patients, better for their care and safer for our nursing staff,” she said.

There are vacancies for the golf game, which kicks off at 1.30pm. Teams can book at https://www.bookatee.com.au/portland/ and it costs $30 per player. It will be a four-person Ambrose event over 13 holes.

Ms Malseed said the online auction was a major component of the fund-raising.

“Each year we have great support from the Portland community with sponsorship for the event but also with donations of goods for auction,” she said.

“This year there have already been several exciting donations but we’d like more and hope local people can dig deep to support their health service.”

Auction items donated so far include – a tug boat ride for 2 people, a night’s accommodation at the RACV Torquay resort, a Webber Q Premium 2200 and some of our very highly regarded PDH pasties.

The golf event returned last September after a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19 restrictions but has now moved back to its usual March timeslot.

Over the past 11 years, the golf event and auction have raised nearly $200,000. All money raised has been used by PDH to upgrade medical equipment and facilities to enhance services to the community.

The online auction goes live tomorrow and the link will be available via the PDH website and social media.
