What is a Speech Pathologist?
Speech Pathologists study, diagnose and treat communication disorders, including difficulties with speech, language, swallowing, fluency and voice.
They work with people who have difficulty communicating due to conditions such as developmental delays, stroke, brain injuries, learning disability, cerebral palsy, and other conditions that can affect speech and language.
People who experience difficulties swallowing food and drink safely can also be helped by a speech pathologist.
Core Business
- Assess individual communication abilities
- Assess and provide strategies for swallowing difficulties
- Provide therapy support and strategies for communication to adults and children who are having speech difficulties
- Support parents and kindergarten/day-care staff working with a child who have children with communication difficulties
- Provide strategies for children and adults with voice challenges
